Harpswell Community Spring DiG 2019

Lincoln Archaeology Group Harpswell Spring DiG 2019

The joint open day with Hall Farm Gardens was a great success, with more than a hundred visitors touring the site and gardens. Landowners Pam and Mark Tatum very generously donated proceeds from the garden tours to the project.  LAG members, students and local volunteers served tea and cakes, which also helped boost our digging fund, and provided site tours and generally looked after visitors.

Trenches 1 and 2 yielded interesting finds from a variety of time periods. A number of intriguing features have also been uncovered by the excavation which will need further investigation before and definite conclusions can be drawn. The sun shone and everyone had a brilliant time!

HarpswellWeek1-002s (1 of 1)The excavation was fully booked for both weeks with a number of people travelling from outside Lincolnshire.

This was an amazing opportunity to take part in an excavations, led by professional archaeologists. It provided a rare chance for the people to come along and get practical, hands-on experience, of digging, finds processing and recording.

It’s a central mission of Lincoln Archaeology Group to make heritage and excavations open to all who wish to take part and we thank our supporters and volunteers for making this possible.
